Ceasefire imposed between Israel and Palestine conflict.

Israel and Palestinians Hamas have bowed to international pressure.  The 11-day-long clash between the two sides came to a halt on Friday.  A compromise has been reached not to attack each other after the deaths of more than 252 people.  Both sides claim it as their victory.  A large number of Palestinians have taken to the streets of Gaza since the ceasefire was imposed.  Hamas, however, has warned Israel that it is ready to retaliate in the event of an attack.

Hamas, Israel and Palestine, have been at loggerheads over the controversial East Jerusalem.  Clashes erupted in Gaza on May 10.  Both sides fired rockets and mortars at each other.  More than 240 people were killed and hundreds injured.  Of the dead, 232 were killed in the Gaza Strip alone.  About 100 women and children were killed, the Gaza Health Ministry said.  According to Israel, at least 150 of the dead in Gaza are extremists.  Hamas has not released any information about the deaths.  Extremists from Gaza, on the other hand, fired about 4,000 rockets at Israel.  Twelve people, including two children, were killed.  More than 500 rockets landed in Gaza.  The missile-defense system, the Iron Dome, dropped 90 percent of the rockets that entered Israel.

Protesters and police clashed on May 6 near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.  As tensions rose, large-scale fighting broke out on the 10th.  The world has expressed concern over the attacks and counter-attacks, and called on Israel and Palestine to exercise restraint.  U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to call for an immediate ceasefire.  A day later, the Israeli cabinet unanimously called for a ceasefire.  A ceasefire agreement has been reached, a Hamas official said.  It takes effect at 2pm local time on Friday.  "The ceasefire will bring" real progress "for both sides," Biden said.  On the occasion, he praised Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations have also played a key role in mediating between Israel and Hamas.  The Egyptian president sent two delegations to the Israeli and Palestinian territories for a ceasefire.  Both sides have agreed to a ceasefire due to the efforts and pressure of the international community.
