Cyclone Tauktae turns into intensify storm- Indian Meteorological Department
The recent sea storm ‘Tauktae’ on the island of Lakshadweep on Saturday morning turned into a hurricane, according to a tweet from the Indian Meteorological Department. It is expected to intensify in the next 12 hours and touch the coast of Gujarat by Tuesday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall has been diverted to the southwestern and central Arabian Sea, near the Lakshadweep region and adjacent to it, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. Alerts have been issued for the coast of South Gujarat and DU.
The Indian Navy has promised to co-operate with the state administration as it is expected to land on the west coast of India. The Navy spokesman tweeted that the Indian Navy's ships, planes, helicopters, "diving and disaster relief teams" were on high alert to provide full assistance to the state administration as the storm "landed" through the west coast of India.
A unit of 50 member NDRF teams is in five states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra, to deal with the potential threat.
The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier tweeted that the "Tauktae" would reach the Gujarat coast on the morning of May 18.
Notably, Myanmar has named the rising sea storm ‘Tauktae’. In Burmese, "Tauktae" means a Lizard.
